iRok2 game tracks: now with 3x more awesome!

As we add new features, fix bugs and refine game play we’ve been trying to get the changes out to testers as soon as possible. So far, we’ve been pretty good about keeping to a weekly update, usually every Monday. This update usually wraps all site and game changes added in the previous week. This week we also updated the entire iRok2 catalog to show off our latest game track improvements. What’s new?

  1. More accuracy. We’ve improved how we place notes so that they feel more natural to play as you’re rocking out. This change should be most obvious at the easier difficulties where we tend to most actively constrain the game tracks to match the beat.
  2. Multi-fret chords. A chord is when more than one note passes under the bridge at the same time. To play a chord, you hold multiple frets together before strumming. Chords only show up in higher difficulty tracks and can get pretty crazy at the most difficult setting. Check out the picture below.
  3. Refined difficulties. The difficulty progression, from Beginner to Harder, should now be more consistent so that it’s easier to transition as your game play improves.

The shot below, with Seether playing Driven Under, shows a chord after it was hit by holding the “1” and “3” keys and tapping ENTER (assuming you’re using the default keyboard keys). The upcoming chord (with orange and blue notes side by side) will require the player to hold “4” and “5” before strumming.

So what do you think? Have you tried your favorite songs with the latest game tracks? Let us know what you’ve seen! BTW, the refinements to our tracks, as with most of our development activities, were driven by input from you, our dedicated testers and fans. Thanks for adding your comments in our feedback forum, and please keep it coming!
